Hair extensions fitted with your natural hair in mind
Hair extensions should look like your own hair on a very good day. At Hector's we start with your natural density scalp comfort lifestyle and the result you want before we recommend any method.
Clients visit our Mortlake salon for length volume event hair and confidence after thinning or breakage. We explain what is realistic before fitting so your natural hair stays protected.
Methods we can discuss
Tape-in extensions can suit clients who want a flatter finish and quicker fitting. Micro ring extensions can suit clients who want a reusable strand method with careful sectioning. Clip-in extensions can suit weddings events and occasional wear.
There is no single best method for every head of hair. Fine hair textured hair and heavily coloured hair all need different weight placement and maintenance advice.
Keratin bond extensions UK
Keratin bond extensions also called pre-bonded or fusion extensions attach individual strands using a keratin tip that is heat sealed to a small section of your own hair. Because each bond is tiny they move naturally and you can wear your hair up without visible attachment points.
Keratin bonds suit medium to thick hair that can carry the bond weight and clients who want three to four months of wear before removal rather than a refit every six weeks. The critical part is removal: bonds must be broken down with the correct solution by someone trained on them. DIY removal is where almost all keratin bond damage happens.
At Hector's we assess bond size placement and density so the bonds sit below the parting line and away from the temples where hair is finest.
Nano ring extensions UK
Nano ring extensions use the same principle as micro rings but with a much smaller bead. The ring clamps a strand of extension hair to a section of your own hair with no heat glue or chemicals involved.
That smaller bead is what makes nano rings the method we most often recommend for fine hair. Less metal means less weight less visibility near the parting and a flatter feel against the scalp. They are also reusable which keeps refit costs down.
Nano rings need refitting roughly every eight to ten weeks as your hair grows and the rings move away from the root. We use a colour-matched bead so nothing shows through fine or light hair.
Weft and hand-tied extensions
Weft extensions attach hair in a continuous strip rather than strand by strand. A hand-tied weft is thinner and lies flatter than a machine weft which makes it comfortable for clients who want volume across a wide area without hundreds of individual bonds.
Wefts are fitted either by sewing onto a braided row or by anchoring to a line of beads. Fitting is faster than strand methods and adds significant volume quickly which makes it popular for clients with strong healthy hair who want a full transformation in one appointment.
The trade-off is placement. Wefts need enough natural density along the row to distribute the weight so we assess hair strength carefully before recommending them. On fine or fragile hair we usually suggest nano rings or tapes instead.
Remy hair — why the hair quality matters
Remy hair means all the cuticles run in the same direction from root to tip as they did on the donor head. That single detail is the difference between extensions that stay smooth for months and extensions that tangle and matt within weeks.
Non-remy hair has cuticles running in mixed directions. It is stripped and coated with silicone to feel smooth in the packet but once the coating washes off the cuticles catch on each other. This is why cheap extensions often feel great for two weeks then never again.
We fit remy hair as standard and colour match it in salon under natural light. If you have been quoted a price elsewhere that seems very low ask whether the hair is remy and whether the quote includes the refit.
Natural results and maintenance
A good extension plan includes fitting refits removal and home care from the beginning. Many clients need maintenance around 6 to 8 weeks depending on method growth and lifestyle. Nano rings typically run eight to ten weeks and keratin bonds three to four months before full removal.
We advise on brushing washing heat protection sleeping and salon-only removal. Most extension damage comes from poor fitting overdue refits or DIY removal rather than a well-managed professional service.
Which extension method is right for you?
Fine or fragile hair: nano rings or lightweight tape-ins. Medium to thick hair wanting long wear: keratin bonds. Strong hair wanting maximum volume fast: hand-tied wefts. Occasional wear for events: clip-ins. Reusable strand method with no heat: micro or nano rings.
We do not sell one method to everyone. At your consultation we look at density scalp condition colour history and how much maintenance you realistically want then recommend accordingly.

Hair extension method questions
Are keratin bonds damaging? Not when fitted at the right density and removed professionally. Damage comes from overdue removal and DIY attempts.
Are nano rings better than micro rings? For fine hair yes because the bead is smaller and lighter. For medium hair either works.
How long do wefts last? Usually six to eight weeks between refits depending on growth rate.
Do you use remy hair? Yes as standard and we colour match in salon.
